Cascais, Guincho and Cabo da Roca
Half day private tourism tour with local guide around Lisbon. Ride from Lisbon to Cabo da Roca, crossing the coast to Guincho Beach, North of Cascais, with the magnificent scenery of the Tagus and the Atlantic Ocean. We will pass several beaches, the legendary Casino Estoril, the headlights, and the old forts that defended Lisbon from pirates attacks since ancient ages.Visit the center of Cascais, the so-called Portuguese Riviera, known since the XIX th century as a luxury vacation destination of the Portuguese royal family and European aristocracy. We will have opportunity to see the several summer palaces existing here, typical of the Romantic revival architecture, which give this place a very special glamor.
We will go to Boca do Inferno (means The Hellmouth), which is a large open cavity in the cliff, caused by erosion resulting from the violent impact of the waves on the rocks. Still pass by Guincho Beach, known internationally as excellent for surfing, body boarding, windsurfing and kitesurfing. This beach is part of the steps of the Windsurf World Cup and it was filmed one scene of the movie "James Bond - On Her Majesty's Secret Service" in 1969.
The route continues by the Natural Park of Sintra to Cabo da Roca, where we stopped to enjoy the view from the westernmost point of Europe. On one side the Atlantic and the rugged cliff, located 140 meters above the sea level. On the other side the green hills of Sintra. In the end of the cable is located the Lighthouse of Cabo da Roca, 1758, which is also the most westerly lighthouse in Europe. It has 243 years!
The entire surrounding area is a UNESCO Cultural Landscape World Heritage Site. The Sintra-Cascais Natural Park is made up of dunes, rock formations (basalt, granite and limestone), lakes and vegetation adapted to the local microclimate, very humid, including some primitive flora composed of Quercus coccifera, Quercus faginea and flowers arméria pseudarmeria. Among the animals one can see wild rabbits, foxes, badgers, weasels, snakes and dozens of species of birds, including rare Bonelli's Eagle and the Peregrine Falcon.
